It is with great sadness that the family of George Jerome Sanchez (aka Jerry), 82, announce that he passed away peacefully at home on January 1st, 2022.
He is survived by his wife, Della (Jaramillo), his sweetheart, aka Del. Their marriage was graced with 58 years of love and devotion.
Jerry loved his family…his beautiful daughter, Julie Dougherty (Kevin), and his handsome late son, Dean (Julieanna). He was an incredible “Papa” to seven precious grandchildren: Marquel, Katrina, Cole, & Cade Dougherty; and Jared, Joshua, & Sierra Sanchez.
He is preceded in death by his son, Dean, his parents, Arthur and Sue, his brothers Dick and Raymond, and his sister-in-law, Barb (wife of brother Don).
He is survived by brothers Don & Lawrence, sisters Cynthia & Shirley Flessel (Herb), along with many beloved nieces and nephews.
Jerry was born in Las Animas, Colorado, and moved to Denver with his family when he was young. He attended Denver North High School, where he was involved in football &swimming. He graduated in 1957.Jerry also served our precious U.S. in the Navy from 1958 to 1962.
Jerry & Del were married on September 7th, 1963, and moved to Southern California where he worked for Western Electric (30 years), as an installer. He and Del were entrepreneurs in the graphic arts/typesetting and blueprint/copy industry for more than 30 years. They retired and moved to Illinois in 2006.
Jerry had a passion for soccer and helped form a youth soccer league in Southern California. He played in leagues and coached dozens of teams over the years, including youth teams, travel clubs and high school teams, many of which he and Del coached together. He also coached softball, supporting the kids and taking an interest in all of their endeavors.
The Gospel was the cornerstone of Jerry’s earthly life. First Evangelical Free Church in Fullerton, California, and Kishwaukee Bible Church in Illinois were his church homes. He and Del hosted many “Good News Clubs” a ministry of Child Evangelism Fellowship, (a world-wide ministry-Mark 10:14),teaching children Bible lessons, via neighborhood Bible clubs in California, and later at Lily Lake Elementary School in Illinois. Jerry& Del supported numerous missionaries and Christian organizations, and served the Lord daily through prayer and worship.
Jerry had a servant’s heart, and everyone described him as the most patient, kind, gentle, compassionate, and loving soul. He always thought about what someone else might be going through no matter what the circumstances, and showed grace to everyone he encountered.
These verses were evident in Jerry’s life:
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:12
“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what the Lord requires of you; But to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.”II Timothy 4:7-8
For those of you who knew Jerry, “Thank you for being a part of his life and joy.” He was so kind and strong and wise. “Thank You Lord, for Your son Jerry; he was such a blessing to us all and we are forever grateful for his dear life.”
