Tom Draus, age 74, peacefully passed away on January 2, 2026 in DeKalb after a long illness, surrounded by family. Born in Burlington, Iowa on April 25. 1951, Tom was the son of Mary Lucille (Hays) and Andrew Draus, and beloved husband of Iriss (Simanis). Tom is survived by his wife, siblings Larry (Sabrina) and Kathleen Stoch, sons Peter (Dawn) and Matthew (Beverly), four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Mary, John, and Pat (Sobol).

Tom held an advanced degree in Architecture with a passion for designing churches. He also designed and was general contractor for residential and commercial properties in the Chicagoland area and Southwest Michigan. Tom’s talents included playing several instruments, singing, speaking foreign languages, etymology, building improvements, bicycling, cooking, and being out in Nature. His sunny personality and quick wit endeared him to many who got to know him.
