Thomas Carey, 74, of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away Friday, March 7, 2025, at his home.
He was born March 16, 1950, in DeKalb, Illinois, the son of David and Elmie (Maki) Carey. Thomas was a Veteran of the US Marine Corps.
Thomas was a carpet layer for the Carpenters Union for many years prior to his retirement in 2009. He was a Charter member and former Commander of AmVets for 25 years in DeKalb. Thomas enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching his kids sporting events and music.
He is survived by his wife Sandy; his children Shane (Tracy) Carey and Shannon (Antuan) Potter; his four grandchildren David, Jaivia, Jaylyn and Michael; his sisters Jeanne (Bruce) Densborn and Sandy (Ted) Woodin; his brother-in-law Terry Newtson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Linda.
The Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at City Light Church, 2325 N 1st Street, DeKalb, with Rev. Brandon Arneson officiating.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at 2:00 p.m. at the church.
Also, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at AMVETS Hall, 421 Oak St, DeKalb, from 1:00 until 5:00 PM with Military Honors rendered at 1:30 PM.
