Thelma Lee Petros, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2026, at home in DeKalb. She was the daughter of Fait and Margaret (Meier) Forrest.
Thelma is survived by her children, Mary (Richard) Anderson of Oak Park, IL; Michael (Joan) Petros of DeKalb; Karen (David) Waddle of DeKalb; Sharen (Michael) Szula of DeKalb; her beloved grandchildren, Peter, Colleen, Kathleen, Ryan, Joshua, Jacob, Anthony, and eleven great- grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings, Donald Forrest, Linda Barron, Barb Cristallo and Sue King.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Peter, son Paul, and granddaughter, Christina.
Thelma and Pete were married for 62 years, working together for decades at Twin Tavern, their bar and restaurant. She was one of the founders of St George Greek Orthodox Church in DeKalb, where she was a Sunday school teacher and a former President of the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society. Thelma’s favorite hobby was knitting, and she enjoyed making sweaters, socks, and other gifts for her family. She was also known for her Greek cookies and treats, which always sold out at church bake sales.
Visitation is from 4pm until 7pm on Tuesday, April 7th at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, Il. The funeral will be held at St George Greek Orthodox Church, DeKalb, IL at 10:00am on Wednesday, April 8th. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb.
