Sherman “Wayne” Smith, 82, of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2025, at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb.

He was born May 20, 1942, in Danville, Illinois, the son of Sherman and Dorotha (Neff) Smith.

Sherman was employed at Northern Illinois University for thirty one years. He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them taking family trips to Wisconsin and Tennessee. He also enjoyed playing Bingo at the DeKalb Senior Center and was a member of the DeKalb Moose Lodge. 

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, June; his children Florence “Missy” Yurs  (Billy Muir) of DeKalb, Robert “Bobby” (Lorrie) Yurs of Poplar Grove, Willis Yurs of Malta, Shane (Amy) Harris of  Springfield, Illinois and Tommy (Nicole) Harris of Farmington, Missouri; his 14 grandchildren Andrew, David, Teejah, Aaron, Donald, Brittany, Willie, Walter, Jacob, Emily, Austin, Emma, Troy and Anna; and numerous great grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister; and his great grandson David Jr.

The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb with Rev. Dennis Campbell officiating.  Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
