Sandra Johnson, 81, passed away at home in DeKalb, IL on August 21, 2023.
Sandy was born in Tacoma, WA near Fort Lewis on April 7, 1942. She spent much of her early childhood traveling around the world due to her father being a Major in the United States Army. Her family settled down in Illinois and she graduated from Geneva Community High School in Geneva, Illinois, class of 1960. She went on to earn her RN in 1963 from Presbyterian St. Luke’s located in Chicago. She finished her education, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at St. Benedictine College shortly after.
She married her high school sweetheart, Paul, in 1962 after being cross town rivals. She had a career as a nurse for many years, working in Chicago at Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital and finishing her career as a nurse at Geneva Community Hospital in Geneva, IL and Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. During her time as a nurse, she was a member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, and served as president at one point.
Sandy had two major loves in her life: her family and her dogs. She enjoyed the little things, such as seeing the tulips bloom in the spring, driving around during the fall to enjoy the colors changing and collecting unique Santa figures and ornaments to display at Christmas. She was a dedicated Chicago Bears fan, cheering them on every Sunday during football season. She could also sing along to every Elvis song ever played.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; her son Paul M. (Cathy) Johnson Jr.; her grandchildren, Brittany (Mark) Nicholson, Justine (Chris) Lovell, Timothy Galitz, Nicholas Galitz, Samantha Johnson, Briana Johnson; her great-grandchildren, CJ, Cadan, Faith, Caylee, Emma, Madison and Dyson; and her brother Robert (Jan) Shewalter.
