Roseann (Hipp) Theisen, 89, of DeKalb, IL., died peacefully at home on Saturday, October 12, 2024. She was born September 7, 1935, in Aurora, IL., the daughter of Elmer and Marie (Walters) Hipp. She married the love of her life, James Theisen, on February 12, 1955.
Roseann attended Madonna Catholic School in Aurora, IL. After graduation, she and her twin Rosemary were candy stripers at St. Joe’s Hospital in Aurora, IL. Roseann and James moved to DeKalb in 1962, where she was a loving stay-at-home mom to Joan and Debbie until they reached high school. She then worked numerous part-time jobs, including the Midweek doing inserts, recruiting her two daughters to help her clean the Ellwood House, and as a hospice aide, which was very rewarding to her. She also volunteered to clean and iron for St. Mary’s Church in DeKalb, IL., where she was a faithful member. She retired from her full-time job at Creative Calligraphy and cleaned houses with friends after retirement.
Roseann was an avid reader and daily Jewel shopper, becoming friends with many of the employees there. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always cheering them on at almost every sporting or dance event. She touched so many people’s lives wherever she went, believing that gestures of kindness and prayer should be given to anyone. Not related by blood, she was called Mom and Grandma by many. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Rosenberg. Grandchildren: Ryan (Julie) Ratfield, Eric (Ashley) Ratfield, and Kellie (Adam) Erickson. Great Grandchildren: Lilyan, Andrew, Lukas, and Noah Erickson; Raelynn and Nolan Ratfield. Brothers-in-Law: Richard Theisen and Father Kenneth Theisen, O.S.B. at Marmion Abbey, Aurora, IL. Numerous nieces and nephews, her best friend Carol Grivetti of 51 years, and bonus daughters: Susan McFarland, Debbie Shrader, and Sue Rosenberg.
She was preceded in death by her husband James of 65 years, daughter Joan Theisen, and son-in-law Robert Rosenberg. Her parents: Elmer and Marie, two brothers: Ronald Hipp and Thomas Hipp, and three sisters: Norma Hosterman, Elaine Navarro, and Rosemary Deisher. Her in-laws: Harry & Marie (Bohr) Theisen. Brothers and sisters-in law: Doris Hanson, Sr. Merina Theisen, O.S.F., Robert, Harry, Jerry, and Ray Theisen, plus several more brothers and sisters-in-law.
The family would like to thank the Staff of Sanctuary Hospice, especially nurses Kristen Fredrickson and Ron Ledington for their compassionate care of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Lastly, thank you to The Glasgow’s for always being family to us.
A private family burial will take place at a later date.
