Mr. Robert E. Erickson, age 77, of DeKalb died on January 15, 2025 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He is preceded in death by his parents Russell and Esther Erickson, sisters Barbara Clucas and Judy Carr. 

He is survived by his wife Maureen Erickson, daughters Mia (Steve) Hannon and Megan Erickson; Grandchildren John “Bubba” Hannon, Joseph Hannon, Tom Hannon, Damien (Daniela Morales) Larson, Dominic Larson, Darien Larson and three great grandchildren Ayvah Paris, Mahlya & Lennox Larson.

Robert first worked for his father, Russell, with Russ’s general contractor business in DeKalb.  He also helped his father and mother-in-law, Jack and Marion Hitchcox with their liquor stores; the last was ‘American Liquors’ on Lincoln Highway.  

Robert constantly tinkered and could fix just about anything.  Those skills served him well while he worked for Venda Copy, repairing copying machines all over northern Illinois--including Northern Illinois University.  In DeKalb, he then opened his own electronics repair shop on Pleasant Street that saw much success. Before he retired, his last position was as an Electronics Engineer with Medica Services at Northern Illinois University.

Robert—being fascinated with machines of any kind—was even a pilot early in life! The family would frequently fly to Wisconsin for family vacations in Lake Mills.  Robert was also an avid amateur radio enthusiast, his handle was WA9LKF; he was part of the Kishwaukee Amateur Radio Club - WA9CJN, volunteering at community events whenever he could. 

Robert had a generous heart, lending a hand to anyone who asked for help. He was a man that you could count on to be there for his family, friends and neighbors when they needed it. His kindness, generosity and reliability were gifts that he happily shared with everyone.

We will all miss him deeply. Please keep him and his family in your prayers during this difficult time.
