Robert C  Bastian, 77, of Sycamore, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by loved ones on May 28, 2026. 

Born on July 24, 1948, Bob lived a life defined by quiet strength, dedication, humor, and deep love for his family. He spent 40 years working as an accountant for Caterpillar, where he was respected for his intelligence, integrity, and tireless work ethic.

Bob was a stoic man by nature, but those who knew him best understood the warmth and wit behind his calm exterior. He had a sharp sense of humor that often appeared at just the right moment, bringing laughter and comfort to family and friends alike. He showed his love not through grand words, but through steady support, loyalty, and the quiet ways he cared for the people around him.

Outside of work, Bob found joy in refinishing furniture. He had a gift for restoring old pieces with patience and craftsmanship, seeing beauty and value where others may not. It was a hobby that reflected who he was — thoughtful, hardworking, and deeply appreciative of things built to last.

Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathleen Feeney-Bastian; his father, Wilbur Bastian; and his daughter, Kristy Bastian.

He is survived by his mother, Jane Bastian; his best friend, Mina Vines; his children, Marci (Ray) Papiernik, Lisa (Jim) Chester, Jani (Rob) Wilson, and Michael (Megan) Bastian; his cherished grandchildren, Emma Chester, Bailey Wilson, Joseph (Gina) Bolino, Jacob Chester, Jennah (Adam) Johnson, Daniel Chester, Bailey Voorhees, Ryan Bastian, Samuel Chester, Brooklyn Bastian, and Tegan Bastian; his siblings, Patricia Bastian, Elaine Moen, Carol (Michael) Rutledge, and Linda (Darrin) Ott; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 25th, 2026 at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb, IL. Visitation 1pm-2:30 pm, service to follow.
