RICHARD FOGEL Obituary

Richard E. Fogel, 92, of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at the home of his daughter, Myla, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born at home on March 7, 1932 in Freeport, IL the son of Harry and Bethel (Pepperman) Fogel. He married the love of his life, Lois Greeley, on January 22, 1955 in North Platte, Nebraska.  Dick and Lois met on a blind date in Denver, Colorado where he was serving in the United States Army and Lois was living and working at the time.

Dick graduated from Batavia high school in 1950.  After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Army and proudly served as a Sergeant in the Korean War.  One of the highlights of his life was returning to South Korea for the 60th commemorative anniversary.
Dick graduated from Northern Illinois University on the GI Bill in 1958 and received his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He was a Diamond Legion member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity.  He worked for the DeKalb-Ogle Telephone Company and Northern Illinois University’s College of Education as Business Manager.  He retired from NIU in 1993.  He was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church where he served on many committees.
Dick was also a 55-year Kiwanis Club Member and past president as well as a member of DeKalb Elks and Moose Lodge.

Dick and Lois grew their family by adding four girls, Michelle, Marla, Melissa and Myla. He was a loving, caring and witty daddy, grandpa and big grandpa. He enjoyed camping, fishing, playing poker, a good martini and attending all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s events. His greatest love, joy, and pride was his family.

He is survived by his children Michelle Lovell, Marla (Tom) Wallin, Melissa (Brian) Smith, Myla (Tom) Lexa; his grandchildren Matthew (Erin) Austin, Meredith Bryant, Ryan (Lindsey) Wallin, Amy (Kevin) Hager, Kyle (Emily) Wallin, Jacob (Gina) Smith, Jillian (Cameron) Luker, Tia (Jack) Keller, Siera (Jaime Rojas) Lexa; his great-grandchildren Jack and Greta McMillan, Ava Bryant, Liam and Klara Wallin, Logan, Hattie and Hudson Hager, Henry Wallin, Everett Smith, Jayden,  Asher and Levi Rojas and several nieces and nephews.
