Ralph David Johnson, born on December 18, 1936, in La Rue, Ohio, passed away on September 10, 2024, with family by his side, in Batavia, IL. A 51-year resident of Sycamore, Illinois, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, known for his warmth, humor, and vibrant personality.
Ralph David was married to the love of his life, Mary Ann (Belcher) Johnson, for 63 wonderful years. Together, they raised three children: Rhonda Johnson (Steven Clark) of Studio City, CA, Renee Johnson Barton and her daughter, Isabelle Barton, of Mishawaka, IN, and his son, Channing Johnson (Jennifer) of Chicago, IL, along with their son, William Pembroke of Cincinnati, OH. Ralph David is also survived by several nieces and nephews, whom he cherished deeply.
Ralph served in the United States Army in the 1950’s, stationed in Germany, and followed by earning his Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from The Ohio State University in 1959, a badge he wore passionately as a lifelong Buckeye football fan (O-H-I-O).
Professionally, Ralph David made a significant impact within the Ag industry, working as Regional Sales Manager for both the Olin Corporation and H.J. Baker. He dedicated his 40+ year career serving farmers across the United States. His industry expertise and ability to connect and empathize with others were core to his success over the years.
“aRDie", as he was known to many, was an avid golfer and enjoyed sharing his passion for the sport with others. He is a former winner of the Annual Virgil Golf Open. He was also very proud that in his life he made not one, but TWO holes-in-one at the Sycamore Golf Club!
He was known for his storytelling ability and wit, often bringing joy to gatherings with his jokes and anecdotes. He was actively involved in his community, volunteering with the Sycamore Kiwanis Club, Meals on Wheels and Sycamore Music Boosters during his long residency in the community.
Ralph David was a devoted family man who took immense pleasure in woodworking, gardening, and sharing meals that included his favorite foods - grilled brats, sweet corn, and his wife's homemade mushroom spread. He had a particular fondness for popcorn, especially that from his father's farm, and enjoyed a nice glass of Scotch. He was a favorite neighbor and friend to many in the community, young and old, from his many years spent on W. Lincoln Street. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
