Nicholas Lawrence “Nick” Moore, 91, of Afton Township, Illinois, passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, July 12, 2026, at home. 
Born at home October 24, 1934, in Geneva, Illinois, the son of Lawrence S. Moore and Helen (Umbdenstock), Nick married Rosemary M. Meisinger on August 22, 1959, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Naperville. They shared almost 67 incredible years together. 
Nick was raised in Geneva where he went to work on the farm in his early youth, which fostered a passion for farming that lasted his whole life. His first job was setting pins at the local bowling alley. He also enjoyed agricultural classes in St. Charles. A highlight of his young adulthood was winning first place in the 1952 Reliability Run car race in Geneva against both professional drivers and those who spent extra on fast cars.
After graduating from Geneva High School in 1952, he enlisted and served six months with the US Army, after which he served five years in the Medical Reserves. He enjoyed attending Rural Youth Club and went to weekly dances with other young people. It was at a Catho-Chori Club dance in Aurora for Catholic youth in 1956 where Nick met Rosemary Meisinger of Naperville. They married and purchased a home in Warrenville where they raised two children and attended weekly Mass at St. Irene Catholic Church.
An important part of Nick’s life was contributing to farm organizations, joining FFA in high school, and continuing his support after moving. He also was a Farm Bureau member in Kane County, and continued his membership in DeKalb County.
Nick worked for his father until he retired. He then took over the Geneva farm and worked the land until the mid-70s. Nick took jobs to supplement his income including working at General Mills, a glass company, the Post Office, and delivering fuel oil to residents even in the dead of winter. In 1974, he purchased land in Afton Township and moved his operation to DeKalb County. Among the classic crops of corn, soybean, and wheat, he also raised peas for Del Monte Foods. One of Nick’s most defining characteristics was his determined work ethic, and the tireless effort he put into not just his farming, but everything worthwhile.
Despite being a transplant to the area, Nick quickly became a committed civic resident in Afton Township. He served as Afton Township Supervisor for many years, and on the DeKalb County Soil and Water Commission. A great steward of the land; he was involved in planting trees at the then-fledgling Afton Forest Preserve. He had one of the first no-till farms in DeKalb County and this institution continues to this day. His land management effort, not just on his own farmland, but throughout the County, will be seen by all for years to come.
Nick had a lifelong dedication to the Loyal Order of the Moose, attending many lodges including Naperville, Aurora, and Belvidere, and participated in the Moose Ritual Team, placing 2nd in State for the 1974 competition. He was made an honorary member of the Moose after 50 years.
Nick and Rosemary danced through life together and made many lifelong friends. They attended dances at different venues at least once a week. 
The couple enjoyed travel, cruises, and wintered in Arizona for almost 25 years where he enjoyed swimming, socializing, and dancing. They were thrilled when a dance could be found any night of the week in the Phoenix area.
Nick was a regular for early morning attendance at local breakfast restaurants with his group of friends. They found places that opened early, often before sunup to share coffee and “local news.”
Nick was a wealth of knowledge and had a terrific sense of humor, learning jokes during his workday and happily telling them after returning home. He always loved visiting with his family, whether telling stories and playing games, or sharing a little song with his great-grandkids. He enjoyed reading, watching shows about history, and movies like “Casablanca,” and touring or giving rides through his farmland on his Gator. He never met a sweet he didn’t like and claimed that a good bowl of ice cream could solve all his problems.
Nick will always be remembered for leaving the world better than he found it.
Nick is survived by his loving wife, Rosemary; children, Ron (Tina) and Terri (Stan); 13 grandchildren, Jessica, Ileen, Aly (Daniel), Anthony, Rosie, Dan, Keegan, Elaina (Blake), and Corey (Monica), Dacia (Geoff), Nikki (Andrew), Alyssa (Evan), and J. Sterling; seven great-grandchildren, Dominic, Gemma, Martin, Patrick, Rosemary, Hildegard, and Avery; two step-great-grandchildren, Siobhan (Leagh) and Aedon; two step-great-great-grandchildren, Aoife and Adrienn; and a host of extended family and friends.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 21, at St. Mary Catholic Church, DeKalb, with the Rev. Russell, celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, DeKalb. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 20, at Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 S. Fourth St., DeKalb.
