With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Michael Alex Flournory, a beloved father, brother, partner, and friend, who left us on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at his home in Buffalo, Missouri. Michael was 63 years old.
Born in DeKalb, Illinois, on December 22, 1960, Michael was the cherished son of Richard and Icilda (Phillips) Flournory. A proud graduate of DeKalb High School and Kishwaukee Community College, class of 1979, Michael's journey took him from the familiar streets of DeKalb to serve with honor in the United States Air Force. His dedication to his country was a testament to his selflessness and bravery.
After his service, Michael returned to DeKalb where he worked in the sheet metal industry for several years before joining NICOR Gas, where he worked for 15 years before retiring in 2018. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his kind spirit, and the warmth he brought to those around him.
He was a man with a heart as big as his bear hugs. When he wrapped you in one of those, it was like being held by the warmth of the world—safe, loved, and utterly at home. His hugs were more than just an embrace; they were a reminder that no matter what, you were cherished and never alone. An avid motorcyclist, Michael found joy in the open road and the freedom of riding. His passion for motorcycles was a defining part of his life, bringing him immense pleasure and a sense of adventure.
Michael is survived by his beloved daughter, Jolecia (Stephen) Luyakoh, who was the light of his life; his dear brother, Martin Flournory; and his long-time partner, Julie Clodfelter, who stood by his side through life's many ups and downs. He also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who adored him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Icilda Flournory, and his sisters, Mary and Maureen. Their absence leaves a void in our hearts that will never be filled.
A Funeral Service to honor Michael’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb. Reverend James Strub will officiate. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb, where Michael will be laid to rest with Full Military Honors by the DeKalb American Legion Post 66.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. Friday until the time of the service at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb.
