LONNIE STOJAN Obituary

Lonnie G. Stojan, 75, of DeKalb, passed away Monday, February 19, 2024, at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb.

He was born August 7, 1948, in Elgin, the son of Gordon and Betty Jean (Defenbaugh) Stojan.

Lonnie was a Veteran of the Army during the Vietnam Era.  He was a proud supporter of the Veterans Associations.
One of Lonnie’s first projects was to put on POW/MIA sign up on the west end of Genoa off of route 72 that still stands today. He also organized the “Ave of Flags” that are put out in front of the DeKalb Co. Court House in Sycamore for the holidays and special occasions.

Lonnie was also involved with “Viet now” that did many projects throughout the community. His favorite project was when he helped organize the traveling wall “the wall that heals” to the Sycamore park in 1997, 2007 and 2017. He was so proud of how the community came together. The hard work of so many people and how many people came to visit the wall. Lonnie’s proudest moment of all was when he was able to lay a wreath at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington D.C.

Lonnie is survived by his wife Bonnie:  his children Brandon Stojan and Melissa (Bud) Fredin; his grandchildren Annamae and Cece Fredin; his siblings JoAnn (Clarence) Ewing and Ronnie (Carol) Stojan; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Phillip Dean Stojan; and many Vietnam Era friends.
