Leathia Cribbs was born February 14, 1966, in Jonestown, Mississippi to Earnestine and the late B.J. Johnson.

She went home to be with the Lord October 3, 2024.

Leathia was educated in the Chicago school system, graduating from Finger High School. She met, and then married Ernie Cribbs on July 20, 1995.

Leathia professed her hope in Christ at a young age at Omega Baptist Church in Chicago.  She enjoyed being with family and friends, and was a great cook especially her sweet potato pies.  She helped raise her grandchildren as long as she could, they were the sparks of love and joy in her heart.  Leathia also loved helping others, she worked as a CNA and school bus driver. She loved her students very much.

Leathia was preceded in death by her only child Brandy Victorian Johnson, and her father B.J. Johnson; her brother B.J. Johnson, Jr., her sister Deloris Johnson, her brother William H. Johnson, and her sister Sheila Lorriane Pitts; her brother-in-law Tracy Cribbs; also several other loved family members.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Ernie Cribbs; her mother Earnestine Johnson; five beautiful loving grandchildren My’kel and Ma’kayla Johnson-Childs, Zariah, Bry’lee and Bry’cen Johnson-Williams; her son-in-law Bryant Williams; three sisters Estella (Arlington) Tate of Dickson, TN, Michelle T. Johnson of DeKalb, and Teresa (Willie) Sutton of Kentucky; two brothers Michael J. Johnson and Anthony L. Johnson both of Milwaukee, WI; sisters-in-law Tasha Cribbs of Chicago and Tanika Wise; brother-in-law De’Roy Hanes of Chicago; and a host of loving beautiful hearts of aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends; and her special and devoted friend Donetta Cooper of Florida.

Homegoing services for Leathia Cribbs will be held Saturday, October 12, 2024, beginning with a visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 1201 Twombly Rd, DeKalb, IL. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb.
