Laura “Laurie” Erwin, age 59, of Sycamore, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Kishwaukee Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Born on October 26, 1965, in DeKalb, IL, Laurie was the beloved daughter of Edward “Chub” and Bonnie Erwin.
She graduated from Sycamore High School, where she was an active member of the FFA. It was there that her lifelong passion for agriculture began.
One of Laurie’s greatest joys was being part of the Flyte Family Farms community—a place that brought her happiness and pride. She found fulfillment in gardening, caring for animals, and cheering on her children as a dedicated sports mom. Her love for horses and all animals was well known, and she had an unwavering passion for their care and well-being.
Laurie was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, and a true friend to all who needed one. Above all, she cherished her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Every moment spent with them brought her immense joy.
She also loved traveling and camping in Wisconsin and Alaska alongside Don, the love of her life. His devotion to Laurie was constant, as he remained by her side through every step of her journey.
Laurie is survived by her parents, Edward “Chub” and Bonnie Erwin; her partner, Don Kendall; her brother, Scott Erwin; her children, Josh (Casey) Terlecki, Samantha (Wyatt) Janke, Justin Terlecki, Michaela Gabbert, David (Krystan) Kendall, Kelsey (Justin) Bolander, and John (Brianne) Kendall; her niece, Megan Erwin; and her beloved grandchildren: Natalie Terlecki, Paisley Janke, Brantley Bolander, and Hazel Bolander. She is also lovingly remembered by her great-nieces and nephew: Emma Erwin, Noah Montes, and Mila Montes.
She also leaves behind her cherished pets: Maverick, Biggie, Blackie, Holstein, Little, and Pettie.
A celebration of Laurie’s life will be held in both Sycamore, IL, and Coloma, WI. Dates and details will be shared via a Facebook event soon.
