Kyle Jacob Burt, 34, of Cortland, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford, Illinois.

 He was born February 26, 1990, in DeKalb, Illinois, the son of Phillip and Tracy (Burt) Robertson.

He is survived by his parents; two sisters Amanda (Jacob) Matheson of DeKalb and Lindsey Robertson of DeKalb; two brothers Brendan Robertson of Gilbert, AZ and Casey (Allie) Robertson of Wonder Lake, IL; also his maternal grandpa Jim Burt of DeKalb, paternal grandma Cathy Robertson of Cortland along with several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by maternal grandma Peggy Burt, paternal grandma Alice Faye Robertson and paternal grandpa Jerry Robertson.

Kyle faced many challenges in life, and was able to do more than many medical professionals thought he would ever be able to do. Kyle made friends everywhere he went, he had a smile that would light up a room and a laugh that was contagious. Although we may not have known what he was laughing at, that didn’t matter you would still end up laughing right along with him. Kyle loved having his hands clapped, he would sit there a long time just letting you clap his hand and if you thought you could change hands when yours got tired without him realizing it, that didn’t happen. He would reach around and grab your other hand again and wait for the clapping to begin. He may not have been verbal but Kyle had his way of letting you know what he was wanting. Kyle loved propelling himself in his wheelchair and you could find him wheeling up and down the hallways at his home or taking himself to his day program where he enjoyed spending time and hanging out with his peers. Even though his time here is done and he will forever be missed by many, we know he is now able to do all the things he was unable to do here and his challenges no longer exist.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday August 24th from 1-5pm at the Elva Town Hall, 16029 Walker Dr. DeKalb, IL. Anyone wishing to celebrate Kyle with us is welcome.
