It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Kurt James McMahon, 59, of DeKalb, Illinois, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. Kurt was born on February 17, 1967, in Rochelle, Illinois, the son of Vincent and Patricia (Lind) McMahon.
 
Kurt was a 1985 graduate of LaSalle-Peru Township High School in LaSalle, IL, where he was a four-year letterman in wrestling and a NICI All-Conference Academic Team member. A National Merit Scholar and gifted student, Kurt graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, IL, in 1989 with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Organic Chemistry. He continued his studies at Northern Illinois University, including time as a teaching assistant, graduating with a Master’s degree in Computer Science in 1991. Following graduation, Kurt became an instructor of computer science at Northern Illinois University, where he was a dedicated teacher, colleague, and mentor for his students, including being named Teacher of the Year, until his passing. Outside the classroom, Kurt was an avid reader, gamer, friend, and devoted uncle, brother, and son. He was known for his wide variety of interests and his sense of humor. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in DeKalb. Kurt’s legacy will forever remain in our hearts. 
 
Kurt was preceded in death by his mother. Patricia McMahon. He is survived by his father, Vincent McMahon of DeKalb; his sister and brother-in-law, Kara and Jim Vicente of Elgin; his nephew Ryan Vicente of Elgin; his uncle and aunt Philip and Chris McMahon of Iowa; numerous cousins, and a core group of friends who were his second family. 

A traditional service with an internment immediately following will be held at 9:30 a.m. on May 17, 2026, at St. Paul Episcopal Church, 900 Normal Rd, DeKalb, IL. A memorial luncheon will follow.
