Compassionate and kind, with a great sense of humor, Kathleen Ann Rohan, nee Hickey, passed away on May 30, 2023, at the age of 71.
Kathleen was born in DeKalb, Illinois in 1951. She graduated from DeKalb High School (1969) and attended college in Minneapolis where she was recruited to work for the FBI in Washington DC. Ultimately, Kathy proudly served 38 years working at the FBI, the U.S. Supreme Court Marshal's Office, the U.S. House of Representatives Appropriations Committee and the Architect of the Capitol, Budget Office. Kathy was working at the U.S. Capitol on September 11, 2001, and shared significant stories about the events of that day. She was an expert on U.S. government history and protocol and a voracious reader of political events. Many, many friends, and family members made trips to Washington D.C. that included incredible behind-the-scenes experiences, all personalized and planned from Kay’s warm and welcoming heart and insider knowledge of Washington.
After retirement, Kathy and Lex were avid cruisers and sailed to all corners of the globe. They loved living in the vibrant Washington D.C. area and could be found enjoying concerts and theatre at Kennedy Center and touring the many museums and memorials. A devoted reader, Kay especially enjoyed Irish literature.
Kathy’s family was her priority. She remained connected and committed to her family and her deep DeKalb roots. She was an exceptional human being with an enormous heart and will be missed terribly.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents Bernard & Mary Hickey and her brother Gerry. She is survived by her husband, Alexis Michael Rohan. Siblings include Kevin Hickey (Donna) of Shabbona, Illinois, Terence Hickey of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Kelly McCarthy Hickey (Lynne Gentry) of Lake Forest, Illinois, and Jim Hickey (Carrie) of Dayton, Minnesota, and sister-in-law Helen Hickey of Rockford. Rohan brothers & sisters in-law: Francis Rohan, Joanna Rohan, Marilyn Rohan, John (Mary) Rohan, James (Ceceila) Rohan, Thomas (Jeryl) Rohan. She was an adoring aunt to 26 Hickey & 110 Rohan nieces & nephews. Kay’s closest friends are Pat, Kathy and Linda.
We’d like to thank the incredible staff at Oak Crest for their excellent skilled care and amazing warmth in caring for Kathy during her brief stay.
