Katherine Jean Zucker, 68, of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at home surrounded by her family. Born July 5, 1955 , in Rock Hill, South Carolina, the daughter of Eva (Woody) and Harold Michaels. Jean married Thomas Frederick Zucker in December 1981 in Palatine, IL. Jean devoted her life to family and service to others. Jean was one of the most kind, caring and selfless people and it showed in all aspects of her life.
Jean grew up in DeKalb, IL and graduated from DeKalb High School. She went on to get her LPN Certificate where she spent her career helping others. She retired from Oak Crest in October of 2022 in social services where she spent much of her time providing support and services to residents and their families. Jean was very involved in the community and spent many years active in PTA/O and Music Boosters. She lived for her kids and would never miss a softball game, dance recital, cheerleading competition or band concert. Jean was an avid music lover. She and Tom passed their love of music down to their children taking them to concerts regularly. They often spent evenings dancing around the kitchen to their favorite songs. Jean loved to travel, taking the family on many adventures across the country.
She is survived by her children, Justin (Erin) Mitchell, Katie (Rick) Davis, Jessica, Jimmy and Karly; grandchildren, Brooklynn (Bradley), Tesslynn, Jack, Grace, Logan and Rory; two great-grandchildren, Braylynn and Bria; brother, Rick (Karen) Michaels; sisters, Robin Michaels and Charlene Coan; brother-in-law, Jack Gubernator, and sister-in-law, Cindy Zucker along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; her parents; sister, Brenda Gubernator; sister-in-law, Gina Martin; and her beloved beagle, Buster.
The Memorial Service will be held at 3pm Sunday, August 13, 2023, at Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 S 4th St , DeKalb with Rev. Joseph M. Gastiger officiating.
Visitation will be from 1pm until the time of services at 3pm at the funeral home.
