Karen Ann Podeszek, of DeKalb, passed away on February 23, 2026. She was born on September 30, 1969, in Newfane, New York, the daughter of Stanley and Agnes Podeszek.
Karen was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she faithfully volunteered and served her church community. She will be remembered for her deep commitment to her faith, her work in Advancement Services at Northern Illinois University, and her compassionate service as an in-home caregiver, supporting individuals in their daily lives. She devoted herself to her church, her work, and her community—but above all, she treasured her role as a mother. Her generosity and caring spirit touched many; she gave freely and wholeheartedly, uplifting those around her with kindness, patience, and quiet strength.
She is survived by her daughter, Amanda (Jason Casey) DeBoy; her mother, Agnes Podeszek; her siblings Stan (Sandy) Podeszek Jr., Tina (K.O.) Johnson, Lee Podeszek, Marc (Mai) Podeszek, Gary Podeszek, and Alicia (Henry) Roberto; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Stanley Podeszek Sr.
A service will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 303 S. 7th St., DeKalb, IL 60115. In lieu of flowers, plants are preferred. Memorials may be sent to the DeBoy family in care of Anderson Funeral Home, PO Box 605, DeKalb, IL 60115.
