Karen Peterson, age 84, of Malta, passed away peacefully on June 13, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born on September 13, 1941, in DeKalb, Illinois, to Hugh Lanswell and Ailene B. (Sally) Ward, who preceded her in death.
Karen is survived by her husband of 66 years, Larry Peterson; her children, David (Lisa) Peterson and Rob (Shelly) Peterson; grandchildren Jeremy (Kayce) Peterson, Erin (Matt) Rowland, Jacob (Molly) Peterson, and Tyler (Caroline) Peterson; great-grandchildren Kylie Alek Peterson, Lily Finucane, Paxton Peterson, Ella Peterson, and Baby Peterson; and her younger brother, Ron (Carol Oros) Ward and several nephews and cousins.
Karen was known for her strong work ethic, exceptional bookkeeping skills, unwavering honesty, and devotion to her family. Organized, dependable, and caring, she touched countless lives through her wisdom, generosity, and strength. Her integrity and straightforward nature earned the trust and respect of all who knew her.
Family meant everything to Karen. She was the heart of her family—a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her steady love and trusted advice brought comfort and reassurance to all who knew her.
Karen leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, resilience, kindness, and integrity. She taught those around her the value of hard work, honesty, gratitude, and treating others with compassion. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family, extended family, and many dear friends.
A celebration of life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, at the Rochelle VFW, 318 4th Avenue, Rochelle, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Malta Lions Club or Heartland Hospice.
