JOSEPH R. KEMPIN Obituary

Joseph Richard Kempin, age 76, passed away of natural causes at his home in DeKalb, IL on Thursday, March 19, 2026.


He was born on December 7, 1949 in Galesburg, IL, the third son of 5 boys born to Harry and Margaret (Hanlon) of Galva, IL.  


Joe graduated from Galva High School and played football for the Galva Wildcats.  He graduated from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb with a degree in history. He spent the rest of his adult life in DeKalb where he worked at a manufacturing company. He stayed in touch with an old friend from his hometown of Galva and kept up with all the news. One of his main hobbies was cycling and he put many miles on his bicycles. He also loved music, collecting records and CDs, and watching old westerns on TV.


He is survived by his brothers James (Karen) of Clearwater, MN, Kurt of Kewanee, and his sister-in-law Sally Kempin of Galesburg; also seven nieces and nephews and multiple great nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, John and Keith.


In lieu of flowers memorials made in care of Anderson funeral home will be used for a memorial for Joe decided upon at a later date. A graveside service will be planned in Galva at a later date.
