John (Jack) Holloway, 81, of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb.
He was born October 21, 1941 in Ottawa, Illinois, the son of John and Bernice (Crowley) Holloway. Jack moved to DeKalb in 1962 to work in advertising. He married Sandra Ward of DeKalb, and they went on to have three children and were married for 56 years.
Many people know Jack from his time at the DeKalb Bank where he was an innovator in the area of automated banking and brought DeKalb its first ATM, “Mr. Money.” Jack was awarded for his speaking and teaching on economics through Kishwaukee College, Northern Illinois University, and other institutions.
After his years as a vice president at the bank, Jack started his own business that bridged the banking and travel industries. He and his wife led a number of tours both in the U.S. and abroad. He also served his community in various capacities and was Chairman of DeKalb Corn Fest in 1980.
Jack often spoke of his time in the Boy Scouts and Sea Scouts and was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Naval Air Reserves. He was an aircrewman on S2Fs and flew out of Naval Air Station Glenview.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Sandi; his children Christine (Jim Racine) Holloway, Daniel (Laura Pinckney) Holloway, and Brian Holloway; granddaughters Olivia and Maria Holloway-Racine; and cousin Angela (Donald) Sennott.
Jack loved to get a laugh or smile from those around him even when dealing with serious health issues himself. His humor remained with him till the end. He is dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
