John Barth, age 67, a resident of DeKalb, IL, passed away Thursday January 12, 2023 at home. Born October 8, 1955, in Rock Island, IL, John was the only son of Francis John Barth and Janet Elizabeth Barth (Brennan). John grew up in Rock Island. During his teen years, he lived in the Joliet & Lockport, IL area.
After high school, John served a tour in the US Army, where he became a sharpshooter and was involved in training new recruits with use of a rifle. After his military service and for most of his working career, John was a professional commercial and residential painter and decorator, owning his own business. John met Dorothea (Dorothy) Moore of Wheaton, IL, and were later married on October 20, 1990, in West Chicago. During their marriage, John and Dorothy lived most of the time in DeKalb. John was a member of DeKalb Moose, and of American Legion Post 66. John's hobbies included riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and taking trips on it with Dorothy. John also enjoyed grilling meat, fishing, and working with his hands. John was a life-long fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs. John is survived by his adult children Rachel, Tobias, David, Lucas, and Sam, along with several grandchildren and great grand children. He is also survived by two sisters, Fran Walker and Rowena DeMio. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy (March 1, 2016), his parents, and sisters Mary (Rennolet) and Kathy (Van Dyke).
There will be a celebration of life event at the American Legion Post 66, 1204 S 4th St, DeKalb, IL on Saturday January 21, 2023 from 2-5pm. A burial service will be at a later date at Ohio Grove Cemetery, rural Sycamore. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the John Barth Memorial Fund, addressed to the John Barth Family in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, IL 60115.
