Joan Marie Theisen, 63, of DeKalb, IL died peacefully Friday, November 18, 2022, at home. She was born July 15, 1959, in Aurora, IL. The daughter of James and Roseann (Hipp) Theisen.
Joan attended St. Mary’s Catholic School and DeKalb High School in DeKalb, IL. She graduated from Kishwaukee Community College with an associate degree in Applied Science in Malta, IL. She worked at DeKalb Ag, Midwest Orthopedic Institute, and Rochelle Community Hospital. She was a judge at the Sandwich Fair for many years for the junior flower division.
She was an avid reader, she enjoyed scrapbooking, sewing, crocheting, cooking, and baking. She loved her nieces and nephews, always sharing hobbies & traditions with them. She touched so many people’s lives wherever she went, believing that gestures of kindness should always be given. Not related by blood, she was called Aunt and Sister by many. She will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.
Joan is survived by her mother, Roseann Theisen, and sister, Debbie Rosenberg. Niece/nephews: Ryan (Julie) Ratfield, Eric (Ashley) Ratfield, and Kellie (Adam) Erickson. Great nieces/nephews: Lilyan, Andrew, Lukas, and Noah Erickson; Raelynn Ratfield. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Her best friend Susan McFarland since 1st grade, shopping buddy Sharon Adamchak-Ball, travel friend Sheri Couture, and Scrap Sisters: Jamey Schuett, Eileen Strachen, and Julie Buchanan.
She was preceded in death by her father, Grandparents Harry & Marie Theisen and Elmer & Marie Hipp, and brother-in-law Robert Rosenberg.
The family would like to thank the Staff of NW Kishwaukee Hospital, Dr. Robert Bayer at NW Kishwaukee Cancer Center, Dr. Ghori Khan at NW Medicine Regional Medical Group, Dr. Eileen O’Halloran at OSF General Surgery Medical Group, and Anderson Funeral Home for the compassionate care of our beloved daughter, sister, and aunt.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 S 4th Street, DeKalb. A private family burial will take place later.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the DeKalb Public Library or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in the care of Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 South 4th Street, DeKalb, Illinois.
