Janice Lois Haws, of Decatur, Texas, “Our Beloved Mother and Grandmother”, went home to be with the Lord on December 20, 2023, at home surrounded by her loved ones. She passed on her terms, Janice had waited over 9 years to join her beloved husband Daniel L. Haws, the next day would have been their 60th wedding anniversary. God Bless.
Born September 4th, 1940, in Waterman, Illinois, Janice was the second child born to Alfred and Opal Heines of Malta, Illinois. Janice and Daniel were married on December 21, 1962, in Reno, Nevada.
Janice and Daniel began their lives together in Redwood City, California. Her favorite place they spent time together was San Francisco, California, where they would have shrimp cocktails, wine, and sourdough bread. From the east coast Janice and Daniel moved back to Illinois and started a family. They became self-employed and part owners of The Spot Light Food Mart in Malta, Illinois. Later in life Janice went to work for Northern Illinois University in the payroll department. Her work abilities and ethics earned her spot on the management team. Her strong work ethic was passed onto her children, grandchildren, and anyone who knew her.
Janice’s hobbies were cross-stitching and genealogy. She won a blue ribbon at the Sandwich Fair for her cross-stitching entries. Janice loved her genealogy research, and many times took her sons along to unmapped cemeteries and libraries for hours of research.
Janice was proceeded in death by husband Daniel L. Haws, and her parents Alfred and Opal Heines.
Janice is survived by her sons, Michael Haws and wife Lori, of Arlington, Mark Haws and wife Sherry, of Decatur. Grandchildren Jessica Haws of Lake Worth, and Daniel Haws of Saginaw. They all reside in the Great State of Texas, where Janice spent the last10 years.
A visitation will be held Friday, December 29th, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, at Anderson Funeral Home, Dekalb, Illinois.
Services will be Saturday, December 30th, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at Anderson Funeral Home, Dekalb, Illinois. Burial will immediately follow at Malta Cemetery. There will be a gathering and lunch following at the Malta Historical Society Building, 127 N 3rd St.
