Jan E. Eggum, 86, of DeKalb, IL passed away, Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at DeKalb Area Retirement Center Oak Crest surrounded by his family.  Jan was born December 28, 1936 in Stavanger, Norway, the son of John and Magda (Amdal) Eggum.  Jan and his family moved to the United States when he was 14 years old.  Jan married Sharon A. Davis on April 5, 1980 at First United Methodist Church in DeKalb.

Jan attended DeKalb High School and was on the high school’s first wrestling team.  Over the years he attended many high school wrestling meets with good friends and former wrestlers.  Jan was a Veteran, serving with the 25th Infantry Division at Schcofield Barracks in Hawaii.  He was Master Jan Eggum, a black belt in Karate as well as a judge for students who were advancing for their next belt color.

Jan was an Electrician and member of the IBEW Local 364 Union in Rockford, IL. He enjoyed woodworking to include making beautiful cabinets and furniture. His greatest joy was spending time with family and his many good friends.

Jan is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sherry; his three daughters, Penny (Rolf) Hansen of New Richmond, WI, Candy (Dick) Anderson and Joni Clark both of DeKalb; 6 grandchildren, Nicole (Nick) Baker, Brittany (Joel) Bryant, Shane (Kaitlyn Higgins) Clark, Jesse (Katie Bakken) Clark, Jan (Emma) Hansen, Kristian Hansen; 13 great grandchildren; nephews, Jimmy (Diane) Eggum, Lenny (Sue) Eggum and Andy (Tess) Eggum.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Orville Eggum and sister-in-law, Donna Eggum.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 303 S. Seventh St. in DeKalb with Pastor Lance Gackowski officiating. Full Military Honors by DeKalb American Legion Post 66 will follow services.

 Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of services at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at a later date at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb.
