It is with extreme sadness we announce the passing of James L Boone.  He will be forever in our hearts.

Jim entered the Gates of Heaven to be with his Lord, on Tuesday March 24, 2026.

He passed away at Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital, in DeKalb, Illinois with his loving family by his side.  Jim was a donor to the Gift of Hope Network.

He was born August 16, 1947 in Kentucky, the son of James E. Boone and Artie M. (Beavers) Boone.  He graduated from DeKalb High School Class of 1965.

Jim proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War.

Jim loved watching his favorite sports teams The Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs.  His favorite car was his Oldsmobile 442.

Jim will be remembered for his quiet strength, dedication to his family with unconditional love and support.

While our hearts are broken, we are deeply grateful for the life Jim lived and for the unforgettable moments we were blessed to share with him.

He leaves behind his best friend and beloved wife of 56 years Janice, who stood by his side through life’s trials and triumphs. He is also survived by his children Jeff Smith, Deborah Scott, Rebecca (Jeff) Wehmeyer, Angela (Seth Piper) Boone, and Chris (Amanda) Boone; his six grandchildren Dylan Hughes, Kendyl Westlake, Zack Scott, Tyler Scott, Collin Hargreaves and Alivia Piper; and four great grand-children; his sister Judith (Bob Donoho) Prideaux; his nephews Brandon, Brent and Bryan Boone, David McDaniel Jr, and Vern McDaniel; his nieces Michelle Anderson and Misty McDaniel; also his brother-in-law David (Carol) McDaniel and Jim’s precious dog Dixie. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Mike Boone. 

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Northwestern Kishwaukee Hospital, and Father Robert Gonnella of Newman Catholic Church for their care and compassion for Jim and his family. 

A Celebration of Jim’s Life with Military Honors is being planned at a later date and will be announced.
