Ivan Achilles Cormier, 67, of DeKalb, IL, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 12, 2024.

 He was born on November 2, 1956, in DeKalb, IL, Ivan was the beloved son of Romae and Sue Cormier. Raised in DeKalb, he graduated from DeKalb High School and spent many years working as a machinist at GE. In the late 1980s, Ivan moved to San Diego, where he met his wife and welcomed his daughter into the world. In 1991, the family returned to DeKalb, and Ivan continued his career as a carpenter until his retirement.

 Ivan was a man whose simplicity was his strength, whose humor lit up every room, and whose kindness knew no bounds. He epitomized generosity, always ready to give the shirt off his back, especially if it meant putting a smile on someone’s face. His love for food and music was infectious, just like his love for people. He embraced everyone with his whole heart, leaving a legacy of love and laughter. And let's not forget his infamous inappropriate jokes, which will be cherished as a part of his unique spirit.

 Ivan enjoyed playing the guitar, sharing music, checking in on friends and family, sending funny internet finds, solving Sudoku puzzles, and watching movies. He was an avid enthusiast of classic cars and bicycles. Ivan was a member of the Sons of the American Legion.  Above all, he was a devoted father, considering his daughter his most important accomplishment in life.

 Ivan is survived by his daughter, Sophie Cormier; his brothers, Darrin Cormier and Landall (Beth) Cormier; his loving cousins, Diana, Robin, and Arthur Cormier; and his nephews, Jonathan and Richard Cormier.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Romae and Sue Cormier, and his brother Richard Cormier.

 A celebration of Ivan’s life will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at the DeKalb American Legion, 1204 S 4th Street, from 2-5 pm.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Cormier family in care of Anderson Funeral Home.
