Glenn Jennings, 77, of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Avantara Elgin.
He was born July 11, 1947, in Greeneville, Tennessee, the son of Elmer and Faye (Tweed) Jennings.
Glenn was a maintenance worker for Star Properties. In his free time he was a professional recycler who became known as “Old Man Can” throughout the community. He spent his time off work driving to collect newspapers, cardboard and thousands of cans from dumpsters throughout the college town. He donated the newspapers to animal shelters to pad the floors so the animals didn’t have to stand on the cold concrete. Glenn collected recyclables for more than just the money he believed that collecting recyclables was necessary for future generations.
He is survived by his sisters Billy Marlow, Kathy Herendeen, Connie Brown and Judy Jennings; and his brother-in-law Michael Douglas.
He was preceded in death by his brother Roy Tweed and his sister Frances Helton.
There will be no services. Interment of cremated remains will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Jennings Family in care of Anderson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 605, 2011 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, IL 60115.
