GEORGE C GITTLESON Obituary

George “Clint” Gittleson, 84, passed away on January 13, 2025 at his home in Sycamore.

He was born on April 4, 1940 in DeKalb, Illinois, the son of George and Lucille Gittleson. 

He spent his entire life in the DeKalb/Sycamore area. He attended DeKalb schools and graduated from DeKalb High School in 1958. During high school, he worked at Barb City Bowl and also at Geographical Publishing Co. After high school, he worked at Anaconda Wire & Cable for 19 1/2 years as the product sales manager of bulk wire sales. In 1978, he began working at Ideal Industries as a production supervisor and in 1998, he retired after sixteen years.

Clint married Andrea L. Tranum on September 21, 1963 in Bristol Virginia. He was a member in the United States Air Force Reserves from 1963-1969. He was a crew chief on a C-119 (flying boxcar) with the 928th Troop Carrier Group. He coached Little League and Pony League baseball for over six years. He was a volunteer fireman for the Sycamore Fire Department for 25 year, retiring in June, 1993. He served several terms on the Board of Directors for Opportunity House, as well as the Greater Chamber of Commerce in DeKalb from 1994-2000. He was also a member of the DeKalb County Industrial Management Club for many years, serving as President (94-95)

After retiring, Clint always kept busy with gardening, golf and various volunteer projects. He was a member of the AARP/Tax aide group in Sycamore preparing tax returns for over 22 years. Clint was an active member of the First Baptist Church in DeKalb for over 61 Years. He taught Sunday School for 24 years and served on various boards and or committees.  He also worked at JP Favire Farms for 20 years helping with the corn harvest.

Clint is survived by his wife of 59 years, Andrea; his sons, Mitchell Gittleson of Sycamore and Joseph (Dianne) Gittleson of Anthem, AZ; his five wonderful grandchildren Geoffrey and Devyn Gittleson of Anthem, AZ., and Malerie, Matthew and Maegan Gittleson of Sycamore.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Bob and a very close sister, Marilyn.

The Funeral Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, January 20, 2025, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb with Pastor Chris Hines officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb, with Full Military Honors by DeKalb American Legion Post 66. 

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
