DOUGLAS "DOUG" WINSTON TECKENBROCK Obituary

Douglas “Doug” Winston Teckenbrock, of DeKalb, Illinois,  passed peacefully into eternal life on June 13, 2025 at the age of 53. He was born on September 9, 1971 in Sandwich, Illinois, to Dave Teckenbrock and Sandi (nee Henry).
Doug grew up in Plano, Illinois, playing baseball and football with his school friends and riding his bike everywhere. He graduated from Plano High School and then Waubonsee Community College with an associate’s degree in music. He met his future wife Holly (nee Hadrys) at a pool party for one of his first jobs. They were married on September 10, 1994, at St. Anne's in Oswego.  Fourteen years later, they welcomed their wonderful daughter, Claudia, into the world.  Doug and Holly started their own business, DH Teck Inc., which has kept them busy for the last 13 years.

Doug was an avid sports fan, especially football and baseball, cheering for the Cubs and the Packers over his entire life.  He visited Lambeau Field many times with different family members. He collected baseball, football, and pop culture cards as well as baseball hats on his various adventures around the globe. With his wife, and later, his daughter, Doug traveled to France, Italy, and Canada, as well as California, Florida, New Mexico, Colorado, and many other locations. He loved music, especially Elton John, and attended multiple concerts of his, including one of his first dates with Holly and one a few years ago with his father, Dave. He also played the piano, flute, and saxophone. In his 20s, he had a band with his best friend, Bill, and several other friends.

Doug was a strong Catholic, attending Christ the Teacher Parish in Dekalb, Illinois.  He worked there for several years in adult faith formation in the 2010s, after his conversion to the Catholic faith.  He was a Knight of Columbus and a member of the Cursillo Ministry.

Doug loved lemon desserts, and went on a global quest to discover one sour enough for his tastes. Hopefully, they’re good at making them in Heaven! He enjoyed watching movies and TV shows, especially with his daughter, and would always complain that she would try to predict the plot before the end. They liked watching old black and white TV shows together, such as My Three Sons, The Andy Griffith Show, and Leave it to Beaver.

Doug was preceded in death by a baby lost to miscarriage (Augustin), as well as his grandparents, Jessie and Odis Teckenbrock and Paul and Elsie Henry, Uncle Nick and Aunt Pat Scull, and Aunt Joanne Shufelt.

Doug is survived by his wife and daughter; his dad, Dave Teckenbrock, of Plano, Illinois; his mom and stepdad, Sandi and Steve Bauer of New Haven, Vermont; his siblings: Kevin Teckenbrock (traveling the USA, but currently in California), Julia Choate (married to Jim) of Clarence, Iowa,  and Andrew (married to Katalina) Bauer of New Haven, Vermont; sister-in-law Heather Alvarez (married to Rafael) of Oswego, Illinois; and many wonderful nieces and nephews: Alexis (married to Zach) Thurston, Sam, James, Maddie, Isaac, Odis, Booker, Erin, Nicole, and Ralph.

A vigil will be held on Thursday, June 19, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home, located at 2011 S. 4th St.; DeKalb, IL 60115.  The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 20, at 10:30 a.m. at Newman Catholic Student Center/Christ the Teacher University Parish, located at 512 Normal Rd.
