David William Prothero, 81, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away Friday, September 19, 2025, at River Bluff Nursing Home in Rockford, Illinois.
He was born December 30, 1943, in Long Beach, CA, the son of James and Ruth (Forster) Prothero.
David retired from woodworking and became a school bus monitor for special needs children for the Sycamore school district until retiring after several years. David volunteered for many events such as On The Waterfront, the Rockford Air Show, Groove Walk, and Screw City Beer Fest. He enjoyed fishing, racing, live music, and football.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marilynn; his parents; his brother Michael; his sister Catherine; his sister Janna; and his nephew Gregory Holtfreter.
He is survived by his children Kyle (Linda) Monk, Cindy (Robert) Harrison, Daniel Prothero, Angela (Michael) Link, Ginger (Milferd) Schwersenska from his former marriage to Betty Jean Monk and grandchildren Joseph (Crystal) Monk, Justin Moser, Michelle Monk, Britt Moser, Breanne Prothero, Devon Hale, and Nickolas Prothero. His nephews James (Katrina) Prothero and Mark Holtfreter. Several great grandchildren.
He is also remembered by Marilynn’s children Jerry King, Sherri (Ken) Click, Veronica Zimmerman, Steven (Dana) Holt, and Donna Lubbers. 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter.
A visitation will be held on Saturday October 4, 2025 from 11am until 1pm with a sharing of remembrances at 12:30pm. Private interment will be held at Fairview Park Cemetery.
