David A. Cooper, 84, of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away January 13, 2024, at Generations at Neighbors in Byron.
He was born May 29, 1939, in Erie, IL, the son of Roy and Alberta (Miller) Cooper. David married the love of his life Joanne L. Baker September 30, 1961.
David was a beloved and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
David graduated from Waterman High School in 1957. He also attended NIU and Kishwaukee College.
He was a proud veteran of the Army serving in the 101st Airborne Division. He was an over the road truck driver for 24 years and worked as a part time police officer in Hampshire IL. David also worked for Cy-Tek in DeKalb IL as a computerized machine officer prior to his retirement.
Survivors include his wife Joanne; his daughter Cherie (Gaylen) Parker; his granddaughter Cortney Parker; and his sister Barbara Hengl.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Paul Cooper; his grandson Colton Parker; and his sister Virginia Mitchell.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 10 a.m., with the memorial service to follow at 10:30am, at Foursquare Church, 210 Grove St, DeKalb with Pastor Denny Campbell, officiating. Private interment of cremated remains with Military Honors will be at a later date at Fairmont Cemetery in Polo IL.
