CLEO JUNE EDWARDS Obituary

Cleo June Edwards, a beloved member of our community, passed away peacefully at the age of 102 on September 14th 2024. A devoted resident of DeKalb for 56 years, Cleo leaves behind a legacy of dedication, compassion, and resilience.

Born during the Great Depression on her family's farm, Cleo learned the values of hard work and perseverance early in life. Her journey took her from the fields of her childhood to a distinguished 28-year career with the DeKalb Police Department, where she was known for her unwavering commitment and service.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Cleo was a passionate traveler who shared many adventures with her beloved sister. Her zest for life was also reflected in her extensive volunteer work and her exceptional culinary skills, which brought joy and nourishment to all who had the pleasure of experiencing her cooking.

She was married to Newton Edwards for 32 years until his passing in 1984. The couple’s love and partnership were the foundation of a fulfilling life together, one that continued to inspire those around them, especially their two children; Theresa/Terry and Randy.

Cleo will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and indomitable spirit.

She is survived by her cherished family members; daughter, Theresa/Terry (Dave) Bell, and son Randy (Nancy) Edwards. Cleo was a devoted and loving grandmother to seven grandchildren; Sharon Bell, Jennifer (Brad) Beck, Stacey (Michael) Russo, Brian Edwards (Senta Hopkins-Siddall), Anthony (Marcia) Velazquez, Travis (Evangeline) Velazquez, and Nina (Rod) Cerna., and thirteen great grandchildren; Nicolo, Jamie, Ethan, Eleanora, Isola, Julia, Anthony, Allie, Travis, Bradley, Laia, Vivienne, and Calista.

The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff, CNA workers, and nurses at Lincolnshire Place in Sycamore for their exceptional care of our mother. Your kindness and compassion meant the world to us.

Her impact on our community and her family will be cherished and missed deeply.

The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb.  Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb.
