Christine Tranos Arhos, age 93, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 20, 2025, in Glenview, Illinois. Born on February 9, 1932, in the small village of Kerasea, Tripoleos, Arcadias, Greece and immigrated to the United States in August 1966 where Christine and her husband Athanasios built a life rooted in faith, family, and community.
She spent most of her life in DeKalb, Illinois, where she was a devoted member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church. A woman of deep faith and quiet strength, Christine embodied the values of her Greek heritage and was a constant source of love and warmth to all who knew her.
Christine was the beloved wife of the late Athanasios (Tom) G. Arhos and the cherished mother of Stavroula (Voula) Arhos Minakakis (Dimitri), Dean Arhos (Agni Kistios), and Athena Arhos Apostolopoulos (Ron). She was a loving grandmother to Patricia (Aubery), Christine, Elanna (Jack), Konstantine, Yianni, Athanasios, and Alexander, who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents Konstantinos and Georgia Tranos (Voutselakos), siblings Panagioti Tranos (Rina), Pantelis Tranos (Katerina), Vassiliki Psarologos (Antonis), and George Tranos (Ourania).
She is survived by her dear sister Maria Haramis (the late George) and her brother Ioannis Tranos (Eleni), as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Christine will be remembered for her incredible cooking and baking, her love of gardening and flowers, her skillful knitting and crocheting, and her joyful spirit that brought people together. Her home was always open, her table always full, and her heart always generous.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 S. 4th St., DeKalb, IL. A funeral service will take place on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 320 S. 2nd St., DeKalb, IL.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Christine’s memory to St. George Greek Orthodox Church (320 S. 2nd St., DeKalb, IL 60115) or the Greek American Rehabilitation and Care Centre (220 1st St., Wheeling, IL 60090).
