Charlotte H. Meyer, 96, of Sycamore, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at the Grand Victorian of Sycamore.

 She was born May 19, 1927, in Arlington, Massachusetts, the daughter of Weston and Jessie (Shumaker) Hulse.

Charlotte married George Holden on August 21, 1948, in Binghamton, New York and Eugene Meyer on June 29, 1977 in Oregon, Illinois.

 Charlotte graduated from the State University of New York at Fredonia with a bachelor’s degree in music education and from Northern Illinois University with a master’s degree in education.

Devoted to teaching and children, she embarked on a long career as an elementary school teacher in Clarence, New York and later in DeKalb, Illinois. Charlotte also worked for the Elementary Education Department at Northern Illinois University.

While children were her first love, Charlotte also found deep joy in music and was an accomplished cellist, sharing her talents as a member of the community symphonies in Amherst, New York and later in DeKalb, Illinois. Charlotte belonged to the IATE (Illinois Association of Teacher Educators) and after retiring from full-time teaching, went on to share her skills as the coordinator of the DeKalb Community Tutoring Program, and co-wrote a book entitled Elementary Field Experiences.

Charlotte was also active in her church where she served in many roles including lending her beautiful voice to the choir for many years.

She is survived by her children Bruce (Jerilyn) Holden, David Holden, Kent Holden, Robert (Jeanette) Holden, Susan (Eric) Wahlgren, Karen (Chris)Mitchell and David (Audrey) Meyer, 12 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene Meyer, her ex-husband George Holden, her beloved daughter-in-law, Debbie Holden, her parents and five siblings.

The Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 15, 2023, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 830 North Annie Glidden Road, DeKalb, with Rev. Blake Richter officiating. A private family burial will follow at Malta Cemetery.

Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 1:00 p.m. at the church.
