Carol Ann Reed, 81, of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at the DeKalb County Rehab and Nursing Center.

She was the cherished second daughter of Leo and Madeline (Karcher) Rubenacker born on March 22, 1942, in Sibley, Illinois.

A graduate of Melvin-Sibley High School, Carol spent her early years on her parents' farm, mastering the art of canning and becoming a skilled cook. Known for her warmth, she was not only a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother but also a friend to all, extending kindness even to strangers. As a yoga instructor and spiritual advisor, she possessed a remarkable ability to listen and share her faith with everyone she encountered. She had a unique talent for encouraging, comforting, and caring for others. Her love for travel took her around the world where she continued to grow in her faith and make new friends. Playing cards was a passion of hers, with Euchre being her usual game of choice. A faithful member of Saint Mary Catholic Church in DeKalb, Carol spent many Sundays surrounded by family and friends.

She loved her family, and is survived by her children Michael Canova, Theresa (Charles) Buhr, Chris (Martha) Canova; daughter-in law,  Dava Canova, nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her siblings Anita (Ray) Hartman, Leola (Barre) Henry, Leona (Mike) Reynolds, Dennis (Ellen) Rubenacker; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Reed, her son Doug, and her parents.

The memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb. Interment of her cremated remains will be at a later date at Fairview Park Cemetery, in DeKalb. Visitation will precede the memorial service beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
