Carol Lou Nelson, 68, of Malta, Illinois, passed away Monday, October 2, 2023, at her home.

She was born May 27, 1955, in DeKalb, Illinois, the daughter of William and Louella(Garbelman) Hatheway. Carol married James Nelson on November 26, 1977, at The Immanuel Lutheran Church in DeKalb.

Carol  was a beautician, head librarian at Malta Library for thirteen years, and also was the receptionist for the pediatric department for 22 years at the DeKalb Clinic prior to her retirement in 2020.

 She was a member The Immanuel Lutheran Church where she served on the Human Care Board and taught Sunday School.  She was also a member of the Malta PTA where she served as President. Carol was on the Malta Library Board,  a Cub Scout Leader, and AYSO soccer coach.

She is survived by her husband, Jim; her children, Bradley (Shannon) Nelson, Scott (Stacy) Nelson, and Keith (Danika) Nelson; her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Lillian, Riley, Teigen, Nora and Jude; her sisters, Beth Houtz (James) and Ann Nelson (Roger); her sister-in-law, Connie McCauley; her brothers-in-law, Douglas (Lisa) Nelson and Robert (Dena) Nelson; ten nieces and nephews and nineteen great nieces and nephews; and her mother-in-law, Irene Nelson. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; Father-in-law, Kenneth Nelson, and her nephew, Carl Nelson.

The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 511 Russell Road, DeKalb, with Rev. Marty Marks officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at Malta Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 6, 2023, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb.
