Carol Lynn Grivetti, 80, of DeKalb, died Monday October 14, 2024 at Northwestern Medicine Kishwaukee Hospital in DeKalb. She was born February 25, 1944 in Bark River, MI the daughter of Edward and Margaret (DeLoughary) Flynn.
Carol attended Holy Name Catholic High School in Escanaba, MI. where she enjoyed playing numerous instruments in concert band and singing in the chorus. Carol’s love of music continued throughout her life. Singing in the choir at St. Mary’s Church in DeKalb, and at Foursquare Gospel Church as well as singing and acting in several musical productions over the years with Stagecoach Players.
Carol married Donald A. Grivetti, Sr. on November 23, 1963 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Aurora IL. Together, they would return to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and the Rapid River/Escanaba area as often as time would allow to visit with family and friends. Carol worked numerous part-time and full-time jobs over the years as a waitress, secretary, hostess, receptionist, and even dance instructor. Later in life, Carol and Don started a small floor covering business, Interior Innovations, which they ran together until Don’s untimely passing in 2000. Carol enjoyed cleaning houses in her later years with her best friend of 51 yrs., Roseann Theisen.
Having grown up on a farm, Carol had a love for all animals both domestic and wild. Throughout her life, she cared for countless pets, including most of the stray cats in DeKalb, and many squirrels and critters that climbed her patio for a daily treat of a peanut or two.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband on May 3, 2000, her parents, six brothers and sisters, and best friend, Roseann Theisen (by two days).
Survivors include her sons Donald (Sara) Grivetti, Jr, of Ypsilanti, MI and Kevin (Dawn) Grivetti of Hinckley, IL; grandchildren Colton (Lexie Magnuson) Grivetti, Blake (Abbye) Grivetti, Spencer (Jeanne Letienne) Grivetti, Grace (Dominic D’Abate) Grivetti, Forrest, Morgan, and Aurora Grivetti; three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Laverne Higdon of Sycamore, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the many friends and acquaintances who came in and out of Carol’s life to offer care and friendship. A private burial service will take place in Bark River, MI at a later date.
