Carol Andreasen, 92, of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at Oak Crest Retirement Center in DeKalb.

Carol was born December 7, 1933, on the family farm in Esko, Minnesota. She was the third youngest of Edwin and Esther Juntunen’s fourteen children. She graduated from Lincoln High School, Esko, Minnesota, in 1952. She continued her education at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota, and started her career as a skilled X-ray technician.

On September 3, 1960, Carol married Haakon Andreasen at Apostolic Lutheran Church in Esko, Minnesota. They resided in Carlton, Minnesota, until moving to Iowa City, Iowa, in 1964, where Haakon pursued a doctorate degree. In 1967, Carol and Haakon made their home in DeKalb, Illinois, where they remained for the rest of their lives.

Being the ringmaster of the Andreasen household, Carol masterfully coordinated, supported, and nurtured the five Andreasen children. After an eighteen-year hiatus to raise her family, she returned to her X-ray technician career in 1980 at the DeKalb Clinic, working there until her retirement in 1997.

Carol was a gracious hostess, opening her home to diners and overnight guests, where many guests left with gifts of homemade cookies or bread. An active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, she shepherded children and youth programming, attended Bible studies, and hosted college student and international student dinners in her home. She expressed her generosity and creativity in her beautiful gardens, sharing plant cuttings so others could start their own gardens. Carol was an active member of Green Thumbs, Sons of Norway NorDeka Lodge, the Northern Illinois University Women’s Club, and Red Hats.

She is survived by her children Sara (Steve) Hopkins, Amy (Roger) Ochs, Karl (Cynthia Strand) Andreasen, and Elsa (Robert) Glover. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Anders and Peder Hopkins, Lyle and Lars Ochs, Nils, Finn, and Liv Andreasen, and Nickolai and Julia Glover. She was preceded in death by her son Eric Andreasen and husband Haakon Andreasen.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2026, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 830 N. Annie Glidden Road, DeKalb, IL. 

Burial of her and her husband Haakon's cremated remains will be Saturday September 12th at 11 am, Hillside Cemetery, Carlton, MN. Lunch will follow after the service at Apostolic Lutheran Church, 25 Church Rd Esko, MN 55733.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to Compassus Hospice or to a hospice organization of your choice, or Oak Crest Retirement Center.
