Alfred Egan III Obituary

Alfred Henry Egan III, a longtime resident of Irvine, California, and more recently of the Palm Springs area, died on July 2, 2021 after a brief illness.

Alfred, affectionately known to his family as “Terry,” was 80. Alfred III was born in Dallas, Texas, to Alfred II and Mary (Dowdall) Egan and lived there until the family returned to the Chicago area. He graduated from York Community High School (Elmhurst, Illinois) and went on to study electrical engineering at the University of California Los Angeles. He left before graduating to work in the emerging computer industry and then spent his entire professional life working successfully in this field. A man of many interests, he was a world traveler, a competitive sailor, a lifelong reader, a music enthusiast, a regular Mass attendee, and an avid tennis player.  He played league tennis up until his death and was often an organizer for match play and tournaments.

Alfred III is survived by his brother Lawrence Dowdall Egan (Karla) of Gering, Nebraska; his nieces Danielle Egan-Miller (Scott Miller) of Hinsdale, Illinois, and Nicole Egan of Gering, Nebraska; his great-nephews Prescott Miller and Theodore Rickey, his great-niece Hailey Rickey, and by many friends and former colleagues.  He is missed by all.

Graveside service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, May 20, 2023, at St Mary Cemetery, 531 Sycamore Road, DeKalb.
