Amy Joann Atherton, 47, of Aurora, Illinois, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Mercy Medical Center in Aurora.

She was born June 18, 1978, in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Robert and Lynda (Miller) Atherton.

Amy attended DeKalb schools and spent her early years in Mendota. She was a devoted member of Christ the Teacher Parish in DeKalb and had a deep love for animals.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Wendy and Roman Corralejo of DeKalb; her nephews James and Joseph Corralejo; her great nephew Elijah Corralejo; her aunt Bonnie Miller of St Louis, Missouri; her stepmother Jerilynn Atherton of Mendota; her stepsisters Melinda Lasky (Scott) and Erin (Jeff) Strouss; and many cousins and friends.

Amy’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Mercy Medical Center in Aurora for their exceptional care of Amy.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her black labs Emily and Murphy.  

The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2026, at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb with Fr. Robert Gonnella officiating. Private interment of cremated remains will be at a later date at Restland Cemetery in Mendota, Illinois.

Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until the time of services at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, at the funeral home.
