Alverda Ellenberger ,95, of DeKalb, Illinois, went home to be with her Lord and Savior June 6, 2024 at Oak Crest DeKalb Area Retirement Center.

Born January 29, 1929 in Berne, Indiana, Alverda was the daughter of Dennis and Lilly [Liechty] Steiner.

Alverda married Howard Ellenberger on November 13, 1948 in Berne, Indiana.Howard and Alverda purchased the Carlstrom Insurance Agency when they moved to DeKalb in June 1961.

Alverda was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in DeKalb and Crossview Evangelical Free Church in DeKalb.  She was a Sunday school teacher for over 25 years, a Kishwaukee Community Hospital volunteer, and a member of the DeKalb County Farm Bureau Prime Timers. She was an avid gardener, loved to read and spend time with family and friends.  She will be dearly missed.  Alverda also enjoyed many bus tours and traveling adventures throughout the Midwest, the Northwest, and beyond.

She is survived by her son, Scott [Karyn] Ellenberger; two sisters, Cosetta Roth and Joy Meshberger; two nephews, Tim [Joanie] Roth, their children Sam [Danae], Nick [Kelsey], and Annie; and Lyle [Jamie] Meshberger, their children Taylor and Hailey.

She was preceded in death by her husband Howard, her parents Dennis and Lilly Steiner, her stepmother Orpha Steiner, and her brothers-in-law Lester Meshberger and Sherman Roth.

The Funeral Service will take place on Monday, June 24, 2024, at Crossview Evangelical Free Church, 150 Bethany Road, DeKalb.Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m., followed by lunch at 11:45 a.m. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery in DeKalb.
