Allen L. Havlicek, 74, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home, on May 12, 2026, in DeKalb, Illinois.

Born on August 14, 1951, to Lois and Gordon Havlicek, Allen was raised in Lincoln, Nebraska, alongside Patty and Ted. His roots were deeply entwined with the heartland that shaped him. He spent many years playing with his childhood friends who remain friends with him to this day. His love for music and football also began there. He carried with him a love for Husker football that never waned. There wasn’t one game he ever missed, his dedication to his team was as steadfast as his commitment to those he loved.

Allen’s musical journey was nothing short of extraordinary. Touring the States with his band The Boys, he graced stages large and small, leaving an indelible mark on every venue he played. Along the way, he met many people and legends of the industry. He befriended Rick Derringer, and even once shared a meal with Paul McCartney. His compositions filled albums and hearts alike, his songs became the soundtrack to moments both grand and intimate.

When the touring days came to an end, Allen chose to settle down and build a life rooted in love and family. He poured himself into raising his children Jordanne, Brian, Eileen, and Evan, and later found immense joy in guiding his grandchildren Andres and Harry. Whether it was movie nights with popcorn or teaching practical skills like gardening or building a fire, Allen shared not only knowledge, but wisdom born from a deep understanding of life. Every holiday was magical for him, and he made sure that it was a magic time for everyone else.

Allen had an innate ability to draw people toward him; his presence was magnetic yet unassuming. He eagerly shared what he learned with anyone who sought guidance or help.

Beyond music and family life, Allen found solace in nature. His hands were as skilled at crafting melodies as they were at nurturing plants or fixing things around the house. He was a true handyman and father who could turn any challenge into an opportunity for growth.

Allen was predeceased by his parents Gordon and Lois Havlicek but leaves behind a legacy carried forward by his children and grandchildren who will forever cherish the lessons he imparted and the love he gave so freely.

A Mass will be held at 10am Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Newman Catholic Student Center, 512 Normal Road, DeKalb, Illinois. Burial will follow, he will be taken to Oakwood Cemetery for his final rest. Flowers can be sent to Newman in lieu of the service.
