Alfred C. Kranz, 99, of DeKalb, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at DeKalb County Rehab & Nursing Center.

 He was born June 16, 1924 in DeKalb, Illinois, the son of Clarence and Maybele (Eiserman) Kranz. Alfred married Dolores Dalton, and after her passing he later married Beverly Wrigley on March 19, 2005, at the First Lutheran Church in DeKalb.

 Alfred graduated from Libertyville Township High School class of 1946. He was a Veteran of the US Army, having served during World War II. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s and later a Master’s degree in Education. Alfred attended the University of Illinois Graduate Study of Kinesiotherapy and the University of Southern Mississippi Graduate Study of Health.

 Alfred was a grade school, junior high and high school teacher and athletic coach who later taught at many universities throughout his career.  He was an athletic trainer certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association and was inducted in the Hall of Fame at the State of Illinois and Northern Illinois University for athletic trainers.  Alfred was the Chief Trainer for Amoco Corporation, and trainer of the Cardiac Fitness Laboratory, Cardiac Rehabilitation Program and Orthopedic Rehabilitation Program.

 Alfred was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Illinois National Athletic Trainers Association, DeKalb Sunrise Rotary and the Kishwaukee Country Club.

 He is survived by his daughters Debby Tanaka and Cindy (Bill) Lofthouse; his grandchildren Nicole (Brandon) Schroeder, Michael (Laura) Lofthouse, and Mark (Asheli) Lofthouse; his great-grandchildren Cooper and Claire Schroeder, Jason Coulombe, Raegan Mann, Violet Lofthouse and Theodore Lofthouse.

 Alfred was also survived by Beverly’s family: Lynn (Bob) Schmidt, Charles (Diane) Wrigley, Lori (Jim) Fernstrom, and Susan (Lance) Koury; her nine grandchildren; her fifteen great-grandchildren; and her sister Kathy (Ron) Merriman.

 He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Dolores and his brother Glen.

 The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., April 20,2024 at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb. Military Honors will follow the service by the DeKalb American Legion.  Interment of cremated remains will be at a later date at Lakeside Cemetery, in Libertyville, Illinois. 

 Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in DeKalb.
