Thomas Glenn Folowell, Sr., 78, of DeKalb, Illinois, died Thursday, August 16, 2012, at Kishwaukee Community Hospital, DeKalb.
Born October 17, 1933, in Sycamore, he married Joann Osterhout on December 14, 1951, at the Congregational church in DeKalb.
Tom was employed at Turner Brass, and then at Barber-Greene Co. for 40 years, retiring as foreman at Caterpillar. He liked to golf, bowl and spend time with family and be on his pontoon boat. He was a devoted father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Joann; three sons, Thomas (Mary) Folowell Jr. of Malta, David Folowell of DeKalb and Chris (Rena) Folowell of Machesney Park; three daughters, Debbie (Tom) Irvine of Beloit, Wisconsin, Cindy (Tom) Allen of Steward and Linda Smith of DeKalb; eight grandchildren, Melissa (Javiar) Vargas of DeKalb, Chad (Kymm) Folowell of Malta, Stephanie Irvine of Los Angeles, California, Jakeob Folowell of DeKalb, Logan (Katina) Smith of DeKalb, Meghan Smith of DeKalb, Savannah Park of Rockford and Mara Folowell of Machesney Park; three great-grandchildren, Katrina and T.J. Vargas and Audrey Smith, all of DeKalb; a brother; two sisters; and his best friend of more than 50 years, Loren Vancil of Sycamore.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Erick Irvine; his parents; and a brother.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, August 20, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with the Rev. Robert Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb. Visitation will be from noon Monday until the time of service at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb.
